Welcome to Module 1. Before we can confidently consult, cut or style curly hair, we need to understand what we are actually working with. Curly and textured hair is not simply straight hair with a different appearance. The fibre can bend, twist and form a wide range of patterns, and one person may have several patterns across the same head. Throughout this module you will learn the foundations of hair structure, why curls form, how to describe curl patterns professionally and why characteristics such as density, strand diameter, porosity, elasticity and shrinkage matter just as much as the visible curl shape. By the end of this module, you should be able to look at a head of curls and begin asking better questions rather than relying on a curl-type number alone.
A successful curl service begins before the scissors or styling products come out. Consultation gives you the information needed to understand the client's history, routine, expectations and hair characteristics. Two clients can arrive with similar-looking curls but require completely different approaches. The aim of this module is to teach you to build a full picture before making recommendations.
There is no universal “curly hair product routine.” Product selection should be based on the client's scalp, hair characteristics, condition, desired finish and lifestyle. This module teaches you to understand what each product category is designed to do and how to build a routine with purpose.
This is the signature LCM cutting module. All haircutting is performed on dry hair in its natural curl formation. The aim is to teach you to read the hair, understand shrinkage and create shape with intention rather than applying the same pattern to every client. There is no wet-cutting education in this module.
A great dry curl cut still needs styling that supports the intended shape. This module teaches you to select a finish, distribute products evenly, create curl groups, diffuse with control and troubleshoot the result.
Not every curl concern is solved by adding more product. This module teaches you to investigate common challenges, identify likely contributing factors, create realistic corrective plans and recognise when a concern is outside salon scope.
Technical skill is only part of a premium curl service. The complete LCM experience combines preparation, consultation, dry analysis, dry cutting, cleansing/conditioning, styling, education, photography and aftercare into one confident client journey.
The final module brings together everything you have learned. Certification should demonstrate that you can understand curl science, consult professionally, plan an individualised service, perform a complete dry curl cut, style the finished result and explain your decisions.
